Welsh Language Forums at WWTP
The need for understanding and upskilling our dance community in Welsh and understanding the Welsh cultural landscape has grown in demand more on more each year.
In the last 12 months we were thrilled to have Welsh language leader and facilitator Jên Angharad lead two Welsh Language Online Forums and also support 15 Welsh Language One to one sessions for Beginners and Improvers but all with a passion for bring Welsh language into their work.
The WWTP Welsh Language Forum was held in May on Zoom and was open to all working in the Arts in Wales. We brought partners and individuals together online putting dance & Cymraeg at the heart of conversation.
We discussed where we are at, and how can Cymraeg inspire practice and every day delivery in what we do.
We invited Jên Angharad back to lead our Welsh Online Forum after the feedback we had which described the session in 2024 as “an explosion of useful!”
“Phenomenal! I would love further sessions! Thank you, Jen and WWTP.”
“Another incredible one to one Welsh session with Jen. This is the best way for me to learn one to one, explanation and connecting language learning to movement.”
Jên Angharad was the ideal expert for this subject. She has enjoyed a varied career, building a portfolio of work independently in Wales as a bilingual choreographer, workshop facilitator and movement director in education, community, theatre and television.
She has worked with regional and national dance organisations as practitioner, director, project manager and producer of dance and arts programmes.
She is now the CEO of YMa, overseeing the redevelopment of the Pontypridd YMCA into the reimagined YMa: Man Creu Meithrin Celf | Place for Culture Creativity Arts.
As well as Jên Angharad leading some of our sessions, we also had Rhian Davies from Mentrau Maldwyn deliver a session in North Wales around Traditional Welsh Dancing.
"Being able to give a presentation and lead a discussion about Traditional Welsh Dancing as part of the Wales Wide Training Programme organised by Rubicon Dance was wonderful. Traditional dancing has not always featured on the professional dance sector’s radar in Wales – so it was great to get a voice on this platform. Through Project Wyth we aim to promote, develop and move traditional dancing forward in Wales, and hosting this session was a step in the right direction to spread our message, share good practice, make connections and develop exciting ideas for collaboration".
On this year’s activities we had the following feedback:
“I was delighted to take part in the recent Welsh Language Forum with
Jen Angharad as part of Rubicon Dance’s Wales Wide Training Programme. These forums create a valuable space for open and constructive conversations about strengthening the Welsh language within youth arts across Wales. At National Youth Arts Wales, we believe such dialogue is essential, helping young people to develop their artistic voices confidently through the medium of Welsh. We are proud to work in partnership with Rubicon Dance on initiatives that make this a reality for the next generation.”

We even had a new participant join WWTP who has recently moved from India to Wales and was keen to immerse herself in Welsh Culture. Watch this short interview to find out more.
Further Welsh Language Forums will be organised as part of Wales Wide Training Programme
