Rubicon Dance Advanced Training Scheme

Noticing a gap in the landscape of Youth Dance in Wales for consistent, high-quality dance training for young dancers and reflecting on the provision available in other UK Nations, Rubicon Dance have responded by creating Rubicon Dance Advanced Training Scheme. The course will be overseen and lead by our Youth Performance Team, specialists in youth dance provision, qualified in both dance and education. Guest artists selected for their specialist skills will join the team to deliver specific workshops during the year.

The programme will run for the full three terms of an academic year, each Sunday from 09:30-16:30 at Rubicon Dance Studios in Cardiff and will incorporate:

  • High quality Contemporary Dance training in the form of Rambert Grades
  • Additional supplementary technique each term (jazz/street/ballet)
  • Choreographic skills development sessions
  • Performance and repertoire workshops
  • Safe practice and injury prevention programme
  • Individual learning plans for each dancer
  • Performance opportunities
  • Group trips to dance performances (reduced ticket prices)
  • Talks from guest speakers
  • Career pathway identification

What is Rambert Grades?

“Rambert Grades is an innovative framework for contemporary dance training. The aim of Rambert Grades is to create a new training that empowers and sets a benchmark of excellence in contemporary dance. The process has creativity at its core and has been developed to support teachers in the development of emerging talent. With an emphasis on a practical framework, exams are part of the journey and not the main focus.” – www.rambertgrades.com

What are we looking for?

Due to the unique nature of the course and wanting to nurture each individual dancer, places on the Rubicon Dance Advanced Training Scheme are limited to 16 dancers.

Dancers will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • A clear passion for dance and movement (any style)
  • High level of commitment (you must commit to the entire programme)
  • Open to working creatively - both individually and part of a group
  • A curiosity to expand and broaden dance knowledge and understanding
  • Dedication to personal development

Term Dates

From September 2021 to July 2022, every Sunday during term time.

Selection Process

For the September 2021 intake, we ask that you complete an online application form including the contact details of a school/dance teacher to provide you with a reference and submit a link to a video clip of approximately 2-minutes (any style).

We will review all applications and videos and invite applicants to an interview with the Youth Performance Team before making our decision on the 2021 cohort. Places are limited to only 16 dancers to ensure we can deliver tailored individual learning plans for each young dancer.

If you are unable to submit a video link, you can send the video direct to [email protected] (clearly stating the name of the applicant).
