Open Classes for Children and Young People with Disabilities

Go to the timetable!

Our open dance sessions for children and young people with disabilities are fun, creative and inclusive. Each session gives plenty of opportunity for individuals to express themselves while encouraging group participation and building on movement skills. Our highly experienced dance leaders use a variety of music, props and creative tasks to build a positive atmosphere, encouraging participants to develop their creativity and build skills together. This is an inclusive session - everybody in our studio dances together, including any supporters.

Our participants have a variety of support needs and each session is tailored to suit the group. We have sessions available for all age groups, allowing our dancers to progress through the classes from childhood to adults. For a lot of our long-term dancers, attending a Rubicon session has been a constant for them throughout many life transitions.

These sessions are open classes and new dancers are welcome to get in touch with any questions or for more information before coming along.

Rubicon’s Flagship Performance Group for Young Disabled Dancers

This group is one of Rubicon’s five performance-focussed groups working towards high profile local and national performances throughout the year. Entrance to the group is by annual audition and the programme runs from September to July. Previous dance experience is not essential, but a desire to dance and a commitment to classes, rehearsals and performances are paramount.

This group offers a more intensive and focused experience than our open classes. We work creatively and collaboratively as a group and aim to choreograph work for performance that develops the dancers' skills and abilities as well as challenges peoples' assumptions of what disabled dancers can achieve. We place great importance on enthusiasm for creativity and physicality, and on being willing to try new things. As well as weekly classes worganize workshops and trips to see performances.

This group is open to dancers aged 11 to 25 who want to work in this ambitious and focused way. Our audition process takes place during the summer, ready to start the new term in September. We invite new dancers to get in touch with any questions and to be kept informed of audition dates.
